IoT & Artificial Intelligence

The physical world—people, assets, plants, supply networks—has historically been “unconnected” to the digital world and therefore largely invisible as a source of insights for business decisions.

IoT solutions enable businesses to analyze data generated by sensors on physical objects in a world of intelligent, connected devices. This data can transform your business, revealing hidden patterns and insights that can help you make more informed decisions and take action more quickly.

Possibilities with IoT:

  • Track, monitor, and stay up-to-date on your products and inventory in real time while in transit as well as in store.
  • Extend your service and support and deepen customer relationships through smart products.
  • Gather and learn your assets' vital parameters through small, wireless, and multi-stats sensors to anticipate failures before they happen.
  • Turn real-time sensor data into actionable insights through big data tools, cognitive analytics, and machine learning.

Our approach:

Think big, Start small, Scale fast.

At MindWorx, we start with exploring the possibilities vis-à-vis the challenges faced by the client. Once we have options available, we help the clientget clarity by starting small with a project that offers demonstrated ROI and tangible benefits. Utilizing our technology experts, cloud-based platforms, and device - sensor kits we can quickly create mock-ups and prototypes to show clients what’s possible. If the solution seems like it’s working, we iterate on it, tweak it, enhance it, and work with the client to scale the project.

At MindWorx we strive to use IoT as a medium to help clients transform their businesses, realize tangible value, and deliver powerful outcomes. We approach every IoT project with a value-focused mindset.

Device Gateway

With the growth of connected devices, one of the most critical components of future internet of things systems are the IoT Gateways.

In simple words, a Gateway connects “things” to “platform” or “cloud”. They aggregate sensor data, translates between sensor protocols, processes sensor data before sending it onward and more.

Devices may connect on different protocols -- such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth; serial ports, Ethernet; MQ Telemetry Transport, Zigbee, etc.

There are multiple gateway devices available for the development of IoT projects.

IoT Platforms

IoT platforms connects the data network to the sensor arrangement and provides insights using backend applications to make sense of plethora of data generated by hundreds of sensors. Such platforms are generally cloud hosted so as to keep a whole chunk of collected data.

At MindWorx we have the capability to work on the following platforms.

User Stories

1. Remote Monitoring Power Gen-Sets:

Overview

The client is a conglomerate based out of South Africa, having businesses in logistics, viz, Warehousing, Transportation, Air Cargo and Car Rentals.

Challenges

The company provides Portable Power Generator (DG) sets to customers across the country on rent. It was difficult to monitor several DG Sets in terms of their vital parameters. This added to their cost of maintenance and low efficiency. Hence the customer proposed to implement an IoT solution to remotely monitor the vital parameters of DG sets. This ensured long period of dependable service with well-planned preventive maintenance.

Solution

MindWorx architected, designed and developed an IoT platform to monitor vital parameters like Engine Oil pressure, Coolant temperature, Engine Oil temperature, Fuel level, Alternator voltage, Engine Battery voltage and Engine speed. The relevant parameters were picked using relevant sensors installed on each asset based on the rule engine set up on the platform. All such meaningful data is centralized onto the platform and decision-making information is derived and analyzed.

Benefits

  • Timely decision making
  • Informed decision making
  • Reduced cost of maintenance
  • Improved uptime of assets
  • Better service to customers

2. Tracking Cargo Containers:

Overview

The client is a South Africa based company in the Cargo transportation business

Challenges

The company operates on a wide network in South Africa for the transportation of cargo by Air as well as Road. The client faced frequent problem of losing valuable containers, once the cargo is delivered at the destination. Many a times empty containers were stolen from the destination location incurring huge monitoring losses.

Solution

MindWorx architected, designed and developed an IoT platform to monitor the movement of the cargo containers and track –n-trace its location while on the move. This ensured that the empty containers were either reused at the destination or returned back to the origin. A central controller could continuously track each and every container while in transit on a specially designed dashboard and incase of any untoward incident, could inform the nearest authorities for immediate action. Additionally, the solution was made capable of monitoring vital parameters wherever necessary viz; container pressure, humidity, temperature, vibrations, sealing etc.

Benefits

  • End to End Tracking
  • Quick and Informed decision making
  • Reduced losses due to theft
  • Better service to customers

3. Smart Water Network:

Overview

The client is a South Africa based that works in coordination with the Water management department in the local government in Johannesburg.

Challenges

the water management department faced issues with productively monitoring the water distribution network across the city. There were major incidences of pilferages or leakages in the water pipelines thereby incurring huge losses to the authorities. The client appointed by the water management authorities to build an IoT based solution to help tackle the challenges faced. The client in turn appointed MindWorx as their technology partners to design and develop the solution.

Solution

MindWorx architected, designed and developed an IoT platform to monitor the water pipeline network. Smart IoT water flow meters were used to manage the flow between multiple distribution lines. Power was saved by knowing how much water flow is needed for a specific distribution line. The system could track the pressure in pipelines and detect leakages in the distribution network. Valves could be remotely operated by the central controller though the dashboard. Any leakages observed could throw an SOS alert on the dashboard controls.

Benefits

  • Ensured complete transparent network
  • Quick and Informed decision making
  • Reduced losses due to theft
  • Better service to customers
